Research Membership
Research members form the core of ALIUS, consisting of academic researchers whose work addresses issues related to non-ordinary states of consciousness and the diversity of conscious states, either exclusively or in part. We aim to promote and highlight their work through our research network's activities. While the number of research members is theoretically unlimited, it is practically constrained by membership renewals. As a community-driven, career-building platform, we aim to foster collaboration, support professional development, and enhance the visibility of our members' contributions to the field.
A comprehensive overview of ALIUS' organizational policies is available here.
Participation in Organizational Decisions
All Research members are involved in decisions regarding the organization and its functioning through the following actions:
- Electing coordinators every three years.
- Proposing and voting on amendments to the rules twice a year.
- Voting on new memberships twice a year.
- Proposing and voting on expenditures of the association's budget biannually on demand.
Eligibility Criteria
Prospective research members must be affiliated with an academic institution and their research should contribute to or be informed by the empirical study of consciousness and conscious states. New members require a referral from an existing member, and their membership is voted on every six months. Both research and active members participate in the vote. To be invited, at least 25% of the membership must vote, and of those, at least 80% must be in favor of the invitation.
Annual Membership fee
Ability to pay tier system
Our payment tier system is designed to ensure fairness and accessibility, allowing members to contribute according to their financial abilities. Membership fees are entirely voluntary, and members can choose to contribute as much or as little as they wish. To provide guidance, we suggest three tiers based on different financial capacities.
