​Active Roles


ALIUS is an academic association maintained through the voluntary participation of its members. It strives to towards a predominantly horizontal organizational structure. While coordinators oversee the functioning of ALIUS, they are elected every three years. The active roles distribute responsibilities among members, with coordinators stepping in and offering feedback as needed. Below is an outline of the active roles and their respective responsibilities. We encourage members to apply for these roles or contact the coordinators with any questions.

Symposium Committee

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant academic event, collaborate with peers, and gain valuable experience in event planning and management. As a committee member, you will assist in developing the symposium agenda, coordinating logistics, promoting the event, securing sponsorships, and engaging participants. Head of Digital
​Infrastructure

Responsibilities include maintaining and updating the website, integrating cross-platform functionalities, and documenting digital infrastructure with relevant wikis. This role ensures seamless communication, efficient resource use, and a user-friendly digital presence for ALIUS.

Bulletin

 Bulletin Editors oversee the production of the ALIUS Bulletin, one of the association's most iconic and reputable media outlets. Known for featuring notable content, such as Karl Friston's revelation of his self-identified autism and his early ideas about the Free Energy Principle, the Bulletin stands as a cornerstone to ALIUS's academic impact. Responsibilities include conducting interviews with prominent researchers following the established ALIUS protocol, as well as formatting and editing the Bulletin to ensure high-quality publication.

​The primary aim of this role is to handle the post-production of various media recordings, including Journal Club sessions, podcasts, and other video or audio content. Responsibilities include following an established editing pipeline to enhance the visual and audio quality, ensuring consistency and professionalism across all content. Theeditor will prepare and finalize videos for publication on YouTube and other platforms, adding necessary graphics, titles, and transitions to make the content engaging and polished. Journal Club Coordinator

Description

The key responsibilities for this role include identifying and selecting engaging topics for our monthly Journal Club, inviting ALIUS members to present their work, and coordinating all aspects of the meetings via Zoom or Jitsi. The manager will also moderate Q&A sessions, record lectures, and ensure the smooth functioning of each session. Additional duties involve organizing RSVP forms, sending reminders to participants, and ensuring that we hold at least one Journal Club meeting per month. The manager will also design promotional banners using templates to effectively market the events. If you have excellent organizational skills and a passion for fostering academic discussion, we encourage you to apply for this role.
